Freescale Semiconductors provided 200 wireless patents for APPLE(used in iPhone, the iPad, or the iPod touch)

About 200 wireless patents from Freescale Semiconductors has been acuired by Apple, and received an assignment of assignors interes to the patent.

It would protect company against other who might later claim right to the patent of under color of the title, as The blog Patently-O said.

The patents and patent applications appear to cover a number of wireless technologies, for example, cover two examples of multiple-in, multiple out (MIMO) systems, which generally covers the multiple antennas used by wireless networking. Naturally, Apple could use the technology in either the iPhone, the iPad, or the iPod touch.

Apple most likely purchased the patents to rights to them, if only because Apple is sitting on a war chest of about $29.2 billion in cash, while Freescale has just over $1 billion in the bank. A year ago, Freescale had just over $1.19 billion in cash on hand.
