Led Chaser

This Led chaser is built using some very common digital logic circuits. Easy to build, easy to work with, and looks amazing in the dark. This circuit will light each led in sequence, creating a moving light illusion.

How it works:

From left to right, the first IC is a binary counter, 74ls163, that is used to generate the address numbers we are going to use in the second part of the circuit, the demultiplexer 74ls138. This demux is the core of the circuit, as this IC pulls low the pin selected in the address inputs. Note that you need an external clock for the counter to work (count).

This is a very simple circuit to build, just take note of the control pins on each IC, since both have enable inputs for counting or output, but once set you don't need to worry about them. It can also be extended to 16 leds by using the Q3 output of the counter to control the enable inputs of a second demultiplexer, or just add a second one to generate a double pattern.

You can find the datasheets for both IC's by following the links: 74ls138 | | 74ls163

Audio Amplifier Circuit Schematic With explanation

Audio Amplifier Circuit Schematic With explanation

Here is a simple audio amplifier circuit that is easy to build and has few components. This circuit is built around the LM386 (click for datasheet) audio amplifier integrated circuit, useful when you need to power medium sized speakers from a music player that can only drive earphones.

How it works:
From left to right, the first part is the input stage, here is the connector to the audio source connected too the circuit using a capacitor. This capacitor passes only the audio, and blocks any direct current that may affect the function of the amplifier. Next to the capacitor is a variable transistor (potenciometer), this is used as a volume control.

Next is the LM386 itself, this amplifies the audio input using energy from the battery it is connected to. You'll notice there are two capacitors connected to it, one above and one below in the schematic. The top one is connected from pin 1 (positive side of capacitor) to pin 8 (negative side), this is to get the maximum amplification this IC can generate. The bottom one is also there to help get maximum amplification, this one goes connected from pin 7 (positive) to ground.

Last is the output stage, it is made with two capacitors, one resistor and the speaker. The resistor and capacitor that are connected before the speaker form a filter, that attenuates high frequency signals coming from the amplifier, most likely noise picked up or generated in the amplifying process. The capacitor connected to the speaker is there for the same reason we used a capacitor in the input stage, to prevent direct current from causing undesired operation of the speaker.

Led Flasher using 555 SChematic Circuit With Explanation

This circuit is built around one of the most popular timer integrated circuits, the 555 timer. This circuit will flash the led on and of at regular intervals.
How it works:
From left to right, the two resistors and the capacitor set the time it takes to turn the led on or off, by changing the time it takes to charge the capacitor to trigger the timer. Next is the 555 timer, this is where all the work gets done to determine the time the led stays on and off. It contains a complicated circuit inside, but since it is packaged in the IC it can be used as a simple component.
The two capacitors that are right of the timer are just accessories so to speak, but are needed for the timer to work correctly. The last part is the resistor and the led, the resistor is there to limit the current on the led so that it won't burn.

220V AC Ultra Bright LEDs lamp Circuit Schematic with explanation

220V AC Ultra Bright LEDs lamp Circuit

This ultra-bright white LED lamp works on 230V AC circuit with minimal power consumption. Ultra-bright LEDs available in the market cost Rs 8 to 15. These LEDs emit a 1000-6000mCd bright white light, like the welding arc and work on 3 volts, 10 mA. Their maximum voltage is 3.6 volts and the current is 25 mA. Anti-static precautions taken Pls Should Be handling the LEDs. The LEDs in a water-clear plastic package emit spotlight, while diffused type LEDs have a wide-angle radiation pattern.
220V AC Ultra Bright LEDs lamp Circuit220V AC Ultra Bright LEDs lamp Circuit

The schematics circuit of above employs capacitive reactance for limiting the current flow through the LEDs on the application of mains voltage to the circuit. We use only if a series resistor for limiting the current with mains operation. The 100-ohm, 2W resistor series avoids heavy 'inrush' During current transients. MOV at the input prevents surges or spikes, protecting the circuit. The 390-kilo-ohm, ½-watt resistor acts as a bleeder to Provide discharge path for capacitor Cx Pls mains supply is disconnected. The zener diode at the output section prevents excess levels of reverse voltage appearing across the LEDs During the negative half-cycles. During the positive half cycle, the voltage across the LEDs is limited to the zener voltage.
220V AC Ultra Bright LEDs lamp Circuit16-LED/46-LED combination

Aseries combination of 16 LEDs Gives a luminance (lux) equivalent of a 12W bulb. But if you have two series combinations of 23 LEDs in parallel (Total 46 LEDs), it Gives equal to a 35W light bulb.

Diode D1 (1N4007) and capacitor C1 act as rectifying and smoothing elements to Provide DC voltages to the row of LEDs. For a 16-LED row, use Cx of 12:22 μF, 630V; C1 of 22 μF, 100V; and zener of 48V, 1W. Similarly, for 46 LEDs combination use Cx of 0:47 mF, 630V; C1 of 33 μF, 150V; and zener of 69V, 1W. This circuit (inclusive of LEDs) costs Rs 200 to Rs 400.

LED Driver using constant current source

This is a Constant Current Source LED Driver, When the LED driver Upper-NPN is driven by a voltage thru 4.7K the LED lights up. Assume that the Lower-NPN at bottom is absent. The current via LED and NPN is limited by R. 20mA may be ok 15mA even better. Or LED blows even transistor goes.

White LED dimmer (Linear constant current)

White LED dimmer (Linear constant current)

This simple Linear circuit provides continuously variable regulated current (~25-400mA) from a 4-6 Volt source. I chose a linear design for simplicity, reliability, ease of repair, and to avoid switching EMI in my Cave Radios. The circuit requires only 0.2V headroom above the parallel LED Array voltage to provide regulation at maximum current. The headroom stays low until the LED’s are extinguished at about 0.75V/cell for 4-cell packs.

three ICs baesd LED ramping circuit

Description.

In this circuit the intensity of LED will vary in a ramping fashion. The circuit consists of three ICs: Two 555 timer ICs and one LM393 op-amp. IC1 and IC2 are wired as oscillators to produce 10 KHz and 1 Hz frequencies respectively. These two frequencies are given to the inputs of the op-amp LM393.LM393 is wired as a comparator and its output will be a PWM signal. This PWM signals controls the FET Q1 to drive the LED. The LED will rise from OFF state to full brightness slowly and then slowly fades to OFF state and this operation repeats. The resistor R4 controls current through the LED.

three ICs baesd LED ramping circuit

  • Assemble the circuit on a general purpose PCB.
  • The ICs must be mounted on holders.
  • The power supply for this circuit can be anything between 3 to 12V.
  • I recommend 6V for this circuit.
  • The effect can be varied by changing the values of C1, C2, R1 or R2

Simple puff to OFF LED circuit

Simple puff to OFF LED circuit

This is a simple circuit in which the glowing LED can be switched OFF just by a puff. A condenser mic (M1) is used to sense your puff. When the push button S1 is pressed, the transistors Q2 and Q3 wired as latching pair gets activated and drives the LED to glow. The LED remains in this condition. When you puff on the condenser mic, the sound pressure is converted into a voltage signal at its output. This voltage signal will be amplified by the transistor Q1.Since the collector of the Q1 is coupled to the emitter of the latching pair, the pair will stop conducting when ever there is a signal from the condenser mic due to puffing and the LED will go OFF. The push button switch S1 has to be pressed again to switch the LED ON.

NOTES:

  • The circuit can be powered from a 3V battery.
  • The M1 can be a general purpose condenser microphone.
  • The switch S1 can be push button switch.
  • The circuit can be assembled on a good quality PCB or common board.
  • Instead of the LED, you can also try a low power 3V bulb.

247 LEDs based Long Range Infrared Illuminator

This is Long Range Infrared Illuminator using 247 LEDs Electronic Suite. There are times when the small infrared LED ring built into a security camera will not cover the range or field of view you require, so you will need to find another invisible light source. Some large infrared illuminators use powerful incandescent light sources that are passed through an infrared pass filter, causing only the infrared component of the light to come through the filter.

These types of infrared illuminators create intense heat due to the fact that the white light source must be fully enclosed and burn the unwanted light energy off as radiated heat. Because of this intense heat, incandescent filtered illuminators cannot be used indoors and may not be suitable for many outdoor installations.

simple and inexpensive Power LED driver circuit

simple and inexpensive Power LED driver circuit

Here’s a really simple and inexpensive Power LED driver circuit. The circuit is a “constant current source”, which means that it keeps the LED brightness constant no matter what power supply you use or surrounding environmental conditions you subject the LED’s to. Or to put in another way: “this is better than using a resistor”.

It’s more consistent, more efficient, and more flexible. It’s ideal for High-power LED’s especially, and can be used for any number and configuration of normal or high-power LED’s with any type of power supply. As a simple project, i’ve built the driver circuit and connected it to a high-power LED and a power-brick, making a plug-in light.

Power LED’s are now around $3, so this is a very inexpensive project with many uses, and you can easily change it to use more LED’s, batteries, etc.
